'Aakrosh' runs into censor trouble |'Aakrosh' runs into censor trouble
The Ajay Devgan-starrer Aakrosh, which is based on honour killing, has got into trouble with the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).
Aakrosh, which was earlier supposed to release on the October 1, was shifted to October 8 cos of Ayodhya verdict and then again was further pushed to October 15, to avoid clash with Anjaana Anjaani and Crook respectively. However, now it seems like the film has run into more trouble with the censor board.
The Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a show-cause notice to the makers of Aakrosh stipulating approximately 30 cuts within the normal run time of the film. However, apparently the production house we hear has refused to make the necessary cuts.
Regional officer of CBFC, Alpana Sharma initially had demanded for the deletion of certain scenes and dialogues as the examining committee had objected to derogatory remarks made against the CBI, caste, community and women.
It is learnt that the film's production house may not agree to all the changes asked for by the examining committee and may move the CBFC revising committee about the same. Regional officer of CBFC, Alpana Sharma told, "We have issued a show-cause notice asking the producer to delete some dialogue. The examining committee has objected to derogatory remarks made against the CBI, caste, community and women and has asked them to delete it."
Another source said the film allegedly has a lot of dialogue that has double meaning and remarks against women that are highly objectionable. An industry source confirmed that there is strong language in the film. "The examining committee has asked the producer to either delete or replace this language with milder words," said the industry source.
The production house may not agree to accept all the cuts asked for by the board, as it feels that the whole purpose of making a film on honour killing would be defeated if some of the dialogue is scrapped. Kumar Mangat, producer of the film, said, "There are some cuts that we may make, but not all of them. We are planning to move the revising committee."
The Ayodhya verdict had already pushed the release date of the film back from October 1 to October 8. Now, the film may open even later. Mangat said, "At present, I am not very certain of the release date. Unless issues with the censor board are resolved, I will not be able to decide on it."
Directed by Priyadarshan, 'Aakrosh' has a hard-hitting storyline. The film explores the mysterious disappearance of three boys from Delhi University who go missing in the dusty village of Jhanjhar, Bihar.
Ajay Devgan plays a CBI officer and Bipasha Basu plays an anguished wife who is a silent witness to her husband's ruthless atrocities. Mangat adds, "The story is adapted from a newspaper article that appeared in 2001." The article referred to the honour killing of a young Brahmin boy and a Jat girl from Alinagar, a village about 200 km away from Delhi.
