After mulling various options for months, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Monday finally mustered enough courage to brand rebel MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy as a “covert agent of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy” and prepared the ground for his suspension from the party.
The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum (TTDF) adopted a unanimous resolution to this effect at a meeting here and urged party president N Chandrababu Naidu to suspend Nagam from the party for his “antiparty” activities. For the TDP chief, now it is a matter of mere formality to crack the whip on Nagam.
An unfazed Nagam said people would not believe in the “theory of two eyes” propounded by Naidu. “I did no mistake and action against me is not correct. Is it my fault to talk in favour of Telangana?” he questioned.
The party, it seems, is confident that not more than one or two MLAs will support the rebel leader. “Initially, 17 MLAs attended Nagam’s meetings. Now, only three are with him,” claimed a TDP leader.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, TTDF convenor E Dayakar Rao said all the party’s T-leaders felt that delay in taking action against Nagam would further damage the party.
“Nagam insulted all the leaders and systematically damaged the party’s image with a hidden agenda,” said another MLA M Narasimhulu.
Nagam had been maintaining close relations with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, he alleged. In a bid to dent Nagam’s T credentials, he recalled that the rebel leader had made a statement on the floor of the Assembly in 2004 that the region would develop only in a united State.
Earlier in the day, MLAs K Hareeswar Reddy and Jogu Ramanna declared their support for Nagam but the forum did not recommend action against them.
“They did not utter a word against the party,” Dayakar Rao reasoned
