Anjaneya Swamy Temple is located at Kondagattu, about 35 km from Karimnagar, in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, popularly known here as Anjaneya Swamy.

According to the folklore, the temple was constructed by a cowherd some 300 years ago. The present day temple has been built 160 years ago by Krishna Rao Deshmukh. It is believed that if a women offers puja for 40 days at this temple then she will be blessed with a child. It is about 30 km from famous, Sri Rajarajeshwara swamy temple, Vemulavada, another well known temple in Karimnagar. There is a Ghatroad from hilltop to base station.

Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple Kondagattu’ in Karimnagar district is the most Popular ancient Hanuman Temple. The presiding deity Sri Anjaneya is believed as ‘Sanjeeva’ for the diseased, mentally retarded and for childless for progeny. Sri Anjeneya is held in high veneration and attracts thousands and thousands af pilgrims every day.

History of Kondagattu Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple

The Temple exists amidst picturesque valleys and hillocks of kondagattu mountain range of Kodimyal range. Mythologically Puranic evidence goes Sri Rama of Ramayana Trethayuga.
The puranic evidence associates this hillock (Gutta) with the fall of a piece“ Snajeevini” moutain range, while carrying by Bhakta Hanuman from the greater Himalayas to cure the ‘moorcha’ unconscious state of Sri Laxmana injured in the Great War Rama-Ravana. The piece of hillock “Gattu” or Gutta” became “Kondagattu” and Lord Hanuman as the presiding deity.
Mythologically this evidence still persists among the visiting pilgrims to cure their ‘Mental retardedness”.Sri Hanuman Anjeneya cures and ails them.

It is also said that

Balmuri Raghupathi Rayudu ruled this area as Manala fort his capital. Manala lies just 7 K.m from Mutyampet. His wife Dhammai Devi was a devotee of Sri Anjaneya. Raghupathi Rayudu,Dhammai Devi, Dampathi were worried of their Progeny. Dammai Devi used to worship Lord Anjaneya daily, in her fort. Anjaneya appeared in her dream and told abovt his “Graceful form of Idol”Deity was bying on the hillocks of Mutyampet. Raghupathi Rayudu and Dammai Devi Visited the place and Constructed small temple. They were blessed by a male-baby by Lord Anjaneya is grace with a life span of 27 years.

The boy was Named as Kondala Raya. He grew up as a devotee of Sri Anjaneya. He got married with Kalavathi.As the God’s will be done Kondala Raya died at the Age of 27.Kalavathi her self gave her life in front of Sri Anjaneya.Lord moved by the Pinnace blessed them and sanctified the area as ‘Konda Gattu’ the abode of Lord Anjaneya.
