Stephen Fleming is in reckoning to be Indian cricket team’s next coach, media reports suggested.

Fleming, a former New Zealand skipper and current Chennai Super Kings coach, has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Gary Kirsten as Team India coach.

Gary Kirsten’s contract as the coach of the Indian team is set to expire after the ICC Cricket World Cup and the South African has not shown any interest in extending his term.

Former New Zealend captain Stephen Fleming shares strong bonds with India and CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni’s backing for Fleming is obvious considering the Chennai Super Kings links.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan, who is also the co-owner of CSK and is all set to become the next BCCI President, has thrown his weight behind Fleming.

“Dhoni, who also captains CSK, has an excellent rapport with Fleming... Besides, Fleming is himself on very good terms with Srinivasan, who’ll become the Board president this September,” The Telegraph quoted one of the well placed sources.

“And, so, don’t be surprised if the cool Fleming is Kirsten’s successor... He has a lot going for him.”
